I wanted to put attention to a great article that you should all read.  Its entitled 10 things your primary care physician won’t tell you and it really keeps it real in terms of the kinds of things that I notice that we have to deal with on our decisions in what we do in medicine as a practice.  Its written by smartmoney.com

Here is my take on the article however.  I agree that primary care is getting more difficult as a field because of smaller reimbursements and rising costs.  Its also really hard to find a really good family practice or primary care physician.  There are less and less people going into the field.  However they had a point about big pharma’s push into prescribing habits of doctors and in some points to the point of looking like its bribery.  There are countless other industries that have a system in place much like this.  The responsible physician will expose himself/herself to everything out there and then make an educated decision, just like the responsible politician will listen to the various lobbyist but make the best decision for his constituents.

In any case, its an interesting read.

In addition to all of the problems mentioned in the article I would also point out the problem with incompetent and often uneducated receptionists at primary care offices. Time and time again I have failed to receive test results, been hung up, been left on hold, etc. all due to busy receptionists who don’t seem to care about the patient’s wellbeing. Fed up with poor service my husband and I confronted our primary care physician and were told he simply couldn’t afford to pay higher salaries to get more qualified employees. He explained that he now sees twice as many patients as he did when he opened his practice in 1974. He admitted that he makes a smaller salary, (when adjusted for inflation), then he did over 30 years ago.

OFG makes a great point. Ancillary and support staff can often be at the root of medical issues, not only with health insurance problems, but also with making patients feel completely uncared-for. With most physicians unable to spend a lot of quality time with their patients, the bulk of their health care experience is left in the hands of these staffers… which can lead to unfortunate outcomes.

I’d like to start investing in either stocks, forex or futures but am relatively new to trading… can someone recommend which would be better to start with… or can someone recommend a site that can compare these markets and perhaps show pros and cons? Thank you
