If you haven’t heard about the iPHONE then you have been living under many many rocks. However, even if you did heard it, you should know that it would be a grave mistake to buy an iPHONE. Well…any person that really wants a very expensive phone with a very expensive phone plan should go ahead and get this phone. I would recommend that you take a closer look at this phone and what you really need a phone to do. The iPhone is going to be on sale for 5oo dollars for the cheap version and 600 dollars for the expensive version. The coolest part about this phone is that it is an all in one tool for music, videos, and communications. Its basically a pocket pc or palm pilot + ipod + cellular phone in one bite. It would probably be a good deal for someone who really needs everything in one small package. It does have a lot of things going for it: it has a new sleek design, the video interface seems very futuristic.

The bad part about this is that there are many concerns of compatibility. Business software that are blackberry compatible are not with the iPhone. The phone only has one contract with AT&T and the monthly charges are north of 50 dollars a month. Specifically 59.99 for the 450 minute plan, 79.99 for the 900 minute plan, and 99.99 for the 1350 minute plan. This does not include the data plan that you would need to use the internet feature and online features of the iPhone. All in all, you would be looking at the cheapest option that would be 500 + 59.99 x 24 + 36 = 1,976 dollars for the iPhone over the course of the 2 year contract that you purchased. Most likely you will probably get some kind of insurance with that plan so tack on another 240 dollars assuming 10 dollars a month for insurance for such an expensive phone. This is all without the data plan so if you were to go all out on the phone you would pay 600 + 99.99 x 24 + 36 (activation) + 35-40 (data) x 24 = 3,996 dollars. Thats a whopping four grand to use the iPhone for 2 years based on their contract agreement.

Apple iTunes

Compare that to the sprint SERO plan that I have which offers 500 minutes for 30 dollars plus unlimited text messaging + additional 16% discount for employees and only 30 dollars for my Fusic LG phone.

The monthly plans are the ones that end up killing your budget so be careful before you sign up for something that you think you may need but you actually do not. If you really need to get an iPhone though, maybe it may be prudent to wait a bit to see how it does on the market, wait for prices to drop, wait for other carriers to sign contracts with apple, and wait for the kinks to get fixed.

Update: Dear readers, I made a mistake that was shown by a reader: The data plan is included in the price of your calling plan. And another upside to this is that there are rollover minutes which if i failed to mention, you now know that cingular at&t has rollover minutes. So my calculations for costs is as follows: for the cheap people among us who are still crazed about the iphone = 500 + 59.99 (60 x 24) + 36 for activation = $1976 dollars for the 2 year contract or for the fabulously wealthy or insanely crazy 600 + 100 x 24 + 36 = 3,036 dollars for the 2 year contract. Any way you cut the cake, its still going to be a big investment.

For those of you who have yet to invest in an ipod (like me) add the cost of those music downloads and the video downloads which run at almost 10 dollars a pop per movie and you can see your monthly expenditures move far from frugal. Another concern, if anyone can answer is : when you use the data plan say while you are on the internet…are you running up your minutes while you are online? because if that is the case, rollover or even the most expensive plan will probably be not enough for the web heavy user.

iphone is the latest genre of cell phones that exceeds many of its forerunners. Although many cell phone manufaturers are focusing on the latest features as are seen in any verizon cell phone, the same trend was incepted by one of the leading cellular service provider in the U.K. in their t mobile phone products.

Actually, some of the information you have given is incorrect, and I think the only reason you are actually complaining about it is that you are too poor to actually afford it. Shut up, and go back to your poor neighborhood with your 1.5 inch thick phone.

Mmmm, few simple questions. How can you say that the iPhone is a waste of money if you have never owned it, or fully researched it (as you forgot to point out several things for both phones), or attempted to create a non-biased, non-ranting opinion based fully on pure facts? Good god, you didn’t even spell check your post did you?

Yes, I have had both phones. Yes, I live in a nice neighborhood. Depending on your profession and status one phone might be better then another. I enjoy the iPhone because as a web-designer it is more compatible with HTML, as a graphics designer it is more compatible with storage viewing, and communicating, and it is less likely to go destructo-commando on you then any of the Blackberry models did for me.

Yes, the Blackberry may be better for those who deal in the professions of math, science, and general education. Its bill is also less (unless you are already with AT&T), but my iPhone has far outlasted the blackberry phone I had.

When deciding between the phones, one must simply compare features, and take a good long look at your life and which one would be more suited to you.

So please, stop acting like children fighting over which toy is better. To each their own.
