I wrote an article last month about the many ways that you can save money on gas. I recommend checking it out as it is pretty comprehensive. Discover card has done a turnaround from the days when discover was just a minor company in the shadow of mastercard and visa. There is much better customer service set in place and a lot more product promotions and discounts. I actually opened a card about 5 months ago to transfer my balance from another account. The best part about this is that I got 0 percent apr for 12 months. Currently, discovers is offering a 5 percent cashback on automotive things which includes Gas. Other programs offer 6 percent as a promotion for the first 3 months of the card and as high as 3 percent if you can get a good card.

The Discover open road card is great just as a gas card and is good for a full 5% cashback on your first 1200 dollars in annual gas and auto maintenance purchases. Anything after that is 1%. Remember that they are changing their rewards program so that the 1200 dollars in annual gas means 100 each month up to 1200 a year.

I think the best thing you can do is to minimize the amount of gas that you do use, but when you do, you should take advantage of savings opportunities to save money when you do buy gas such as with a cash back card.
