Top 10 price comparison websites that I like to use before I shop online
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. I promise to write things that will help. Thanks for visiting!
For the past year, I’ve gotten to a point where I don’t buy anything unless I know that the price i’m paying is the best price I could find. There are some great sites out there that you can use to shop for pretty much anything online. With the expansion of the internet for marketing and ebusiness, there are few things that you can’t buy online.
The best way to save money however, outside of online price comparison websites is to only buy things that you need or really want. Having done the insane move from 2 different states, I realized that I had a lot of crap in my storage that I spent way too much shipping. Don’t spend 50 dollars shipping something you bought for 20 dollars.
The second best way to save money is to keep track of what you have…there are so many times where I bought something and then lost it so I had to buy a new item and then I find it again. For example, nail clippers…when I finally moved out of my apartment I found 4 of them!!!
A key point to remember about price comparison websites is that there are a lot of site that use the same list of items. Meaning that they use the same search and you get the same results on differently laid out pages. Probargain hunter writes an excellent article on this topic. Pretty much he write that Dealtime, ShopLocal, Epinions, Mpire uses feeds from shopping.com so if you go to these sites you will pretty much get the same results! Bizrate and Shopzilla are one and the same, and AOL shopping uses pricegrabber.
Another important thing to remember is to not just pick the cheapest store to buy. There are a few merchants who suck. They just list items and never send them or send you defective items, so read the reviews about these stores and if you don’t know anything about them, avoid those merchants.
1. NexTag - Simple no frills interface, price history chart
2. PriceGrabber - simple interface
3. ShopWiki - biggest selection of products, watch out for scam
4. PriceRunner - transparency with results, international scope
5. Bargainist - there are a lot of deals on this site so if i find a similar item, I buy from here
6. Amazon Discount Link Generator - you can search all of amazon on simpler format and find the best deals. Where else can you get 90% off shoes on amazon!
7. Retail me not - i also like to check this site for coupons before I press buy on one of the 4 sites listed above.
8. GottaDeal.com - another site like bargainist.
9. Fatwallet - remember to use fatwallet for the extra 1-20% off just by linking directly from their site to those merchants
10. Ebates.com - also ebates is great. I actually use more ebates than fatwallet
